LUCIER

For years, I thought restless nights and heavy legs were just part of being an athlete.

Then the injuries started coming back, again and again, and I couldn’t ignore it anymore. So I started studying my own body: how it recovers, how it sleeps, what it needs.

And this is what I want to share with you here.

I played professional football for 15 years. So I know your life: early mornings, late sessions, games under the lights, a body that never really gets a day off.

You give everything on the field and get home late. Your body is exhausted, but your head won’t switch off. The next morning, you start the day already behind.

What I found changed how I live: light is at the core of our health and our energy.

After dark, screens and LED bulbs keep flooding your eyes with blue and green light. Your brain reads it as daytime, as if the sun were still up, so it holds back melatonin, the signal to wind down and recover. That signal comes late, or weak. Your deep sleep gets lighter and shorter, and deep sleep is where your body does its repair work. The result shows up the next day: heavier legs, a body that bounces back slower, and more room for injury.
